Explore the Area

Ashland/Huntington West Campground sits right on the tri-state border of Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia — which means you can wake up in Kentucky, spend the afternoon in West Virginia, and catch a sunset back at camp with a fire going.

Nearby Attractions & Day Trips

Our staff knows this region inside and out, and we love pointing guests toward their next great day trip. Here’s where to start.

Sandy’s Gaming Casino

One of the newest entertainment options in the area, Sandy’s Gaming Casino opened just down the road and is already a local favorite. Dining, gaming, and live entertainment — and a full horse racing track is in the works right next door. Our favorite local ribs spot, Smoking J’s, has moved in right beside it.

Camden Park
West Virginia’s oldest amusement park has been thrilling families since 1903. With about 30 rides including the iconic wooden roller coaster, Camden Park is a full day of fun. Typically open May through October and just a short drive from camp.
Malibu Jack’s Indoor Theme Park
Rain? No problem. Malibu Jack’s is Kentucky’s best all-indoor family fun center — go karts, laser tag, miniature golf, an arcade, and food, all under one roof. No weather excuses.
My Old Kentucky Dinner Train

A gourmet four-course meal on a scenic rail journey through the central Kentucky countryside. Choose from dinner excursions, murder mystery nights, bourbon experiences, North Pole Express rides, and seasonal brunches. Reservations required — this one books up.

Country Music Highway
US Route 23 is home to some of the biggest names in country music — artists who grew up right here in eastern Kentucky. Spend a day driving the highway, stopping at historical markers, museums, and small-town shops along the way. A drive that earns its stories.
Carter Caves State Resort Park
Kentucky has more miles of navigable cave systems than any other state, and Carter Caves is one of the best places to explore them. Tours run through fascinating underground passages, and the park’s natural bridges and trails make for an equally impressive above-ground adventure.
Rush Off Road
Eastern Kentucky’s hills were made for ATV riding, and Rush Off Road delivers. Join other riders on the trails and spend a day getting muddy in the best possible way.
